Make & Do is a carer and toddler group which is based at Christ Church and managed and run by a team of volunteers from St. Mary’s and Christ Church.
This group is intended to provide positive activities for children, from birth to pre-school, based within the local community. We aim to offer a safe and friendly environment for the community to meet, play and learn in a relaxed and supportive environment for both children and adults, through the provision of facilities such as a baby area, craft and tactile activities. This carer and toddler group is largely based on shared activities between the parent and child, encouraging closer relationships.
Make & Do has now become very established within the local community, and is open 46 weeks of the year, with an average attendance of 30 children during term time and 40 children during the half-term holidays. The playgroup is continually growing, predominantly by word of mouth, with an average of two new families per week. This family friendly group offers free play, with at least eight other fun activities running alongside each other. Every six weeks we utilise the expertise of a puppeteer for a storytelling session. During each session the children are provided with a healthy snack of fruit, while parents enjoy tea, coffee and a biscuit.
As time goes on, we are beginning to achieve our aim of including the attendees of the playgroup into taking ownership of the group by helping with the setting up and putting away of toys, helping with the serving of fruit and setting out of the craft activity.
We meet on Tuesday mornings between 10 and 12. The charge is £2 per family.
