Congratulations! We’re delighted you’re thinking of a Christening at which your child will be baptised. Your child is precious to you and precious to God. At baptism you promise to raise your child to know God loves them, and to help them to follow Jesus as a member of the Church.
In baptism, you as parents are: thanking God for his gift of life, making a decision to start your child on the journey of faith and asking for the Church’s support.
For your child, baptism marks the start of a journey of faith, which involves turning away from all that is evil, turning towards Christ and becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family.
You can find out more about what baptism involves from the Church of England’s top ten facts about christenings.
If you don’t usually come to church we encourage you to attend the all age services at Sunday Light or Heaven@11, where you’ll find many parents with recently baptised children or children preparing for baptism. Find out more about our regular services.
Baptisms in Staines Parish usually take place on the first Sunday of the month: 1.15pm at St Mary’s, 2.15pm at St Peter’s and 3.15pm at Christ Church. Those preparing for baptism are required to attend baptism preparation, which takes place six times a year at St Peter’s church on a Saturday morning. If you have any questions, or to book a baptism, please contact the Parish Office.
Our church halls are also available to hire for celebrations after the baptism service.
